See you at the top! And thanks
for a wonderful pause along the way!
For the past four days I’ve thought of my training as an unlearning process, breaking down the myths that we, as designers, are taught in formal schools. What I realize is that in five short days I was able to come full circle and see why I had an interest in design to begin with.
11 October, 1998 I am delighted to be able to endorse Carole
Talbott¹s Visual Coordination programme. As a journalist specializing in the reporting of trends and directions in lifestyle, design and decorating, I have written reams on the art of furniture arrangement for newspapers and glossy magazines in Australia and beyond. But it took Carole Talbott to condense that general information into an electrifying whole, turning it in to a neat, workable formula with a logical sequence, a boon for busy designers - almost like a checklist of things to watch out for - and for those uninitiated in the intricacies of design, a fantastic introduction to one of the most challenging of the visual arts. The mystique of design has always been a closely guarded secret among the cognoscenti. Even those successful interior designers who follow Carole¹s rules by instinct, often do so without knowing why they make the design decisions they do. And rarely would they be able to verbalize this process. Therefore, their appreciative clients put this type of creativity down to "natural flair" - "a gift". Along comes Carole. No one before her has thought to summarize the relationship of balance and proportion to architecture in this way - making it simple and easy for others to grasp and follow, even those without a design background. The way she has pulled this information together
into an easily digestible package is quite remarkable. It has proved a useful adjunct to
my career as an interior designer and I therefore have no hesitation in recommending this
course to the design industry. Yours sincerely, Throughout my studies in Fine Art and Architecture, both as an undergraduate and a graduate student, I have had the great fortune of tutelage under several preeminent artists, designers, and historians. Yet never, before now, have I experienced that electrifying enthusiasm that comes from being a part of a truly innovative concept or movement. I feel as though I have finally found an outlet for my creativity that will be rewarding psychologically, and culturally. Visual Coordinations® transcends social classes. It matters not if it is a Picasso or a poster because placement is everything! But perhaps the most remarkable aspect of Visual Coordination to me is that you have taken a creative process and turned it into a science. For centuries, artists have struggled to define the creative process and most have had their theories. You have made Visual Coordination a true art form and have realized that which interior design was intended to do but never succeeded. Mark Davis, VC The Visual Coordination formula, originated by Carole Talbott, is a very effective way to begin the design dialogue with my clients. Initial consultations are much more productive by using the techniques taught my Ms. Talbott. Visual Coordination is another tool I can use as a designer. Used in conjunction with my Interior Design education and work experience, it helps me connect confidently with potential clients and ultimately obtain more design projects. My experience has taught me that it is very important to be receptive to new ways to communicate the design process with others. Degrees, on the job training, and continuing education are vital for a designer to stay current and informed. Visual Coordination, taught by originator Carole Talbott, is an excellent resource for todays designers. Valerie Loop, VC What we have found is that once we have done the Visual Coordination on a home the client is so happy that they only want the items that we put there. Plus, they know exactly what they need and there are no purchase mistakes. The product sales that have resulted from Visual Coordination have been huge. Also, the loyalty of clients that have been Visually Coordinated is fierce, and their referrals are our best resource for new clients and they are coming in droves. Now to the best part of all, it is the most gratifying imaginable experience to complete a job and know that its right. When it happens repeatedly just by using your formula, its a great feeling. I am a painter by background, so for me it is much the same feeling as completing a successful composition - the ultimate high. And imagine, we get paid too! Sheila Kuhl, VC I have been practicing interior design and operating my own firm since 1987. I heard Carole Talbott speak at the International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, North Carolina in April 1997. Afterwards, I was so excited about the possibilities I could not wait to attend her seminar. I was amazed at the response I received from my clients. In ten years of practicing interior design, I had never had a client cry in excitement about my work until I added Visual Coordinations to my business. We offer Visual Coordinations to our customers and the result has been very beneficial to sales. Our customers are so pleased that we are willing to work with what they have first and then add new items that we rarely have an item returned. Visual Coordination is a very professional and innovative approach to interior design, and a technique that should be presented to all ASID designers. Lynn Abreu, VC I attended the Visual Coordination seminar at the April 1997 Spring International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, North Carolina. I really went to the seminar out of curiosity, not expecting to learn something that would totally change the nature of my business. I then attended Carole Talbotts Visual Coordinations Certification seminar in July 1997. I learned how the Visual Coordination formula works, the psychology of dealing with clients and how to run an effective business. My undergraduate degree is in Interior Design and my Masters is in Business Administration coupled with 14 years design experience so I am not without formal training. Yet I learned the most significant and profound concepts in a Visual Coordination seminar. The results have been astounding and in such a short period of time. I have been busy with all types of clients, clients that would never have considered using a designer in the past. For every house I Visually Coordinate I average two referrals, these referrals call me before I have a chance to call them. Angelia Moon, VC |
Dear Carole and VC Team, July 31, 2002 Thank you so much for redefining our home's visual definition. The design theory you've created, I feel, can recreate any home. I never thought moving furniture into a room would create spaces and enlarge a room. The rooms appear more spacious and the art work has regained the importance it deserves. From the moment you and your team entered our home you were true professionals. There was no attempt to enter the owner's home and rid it of anything that was meaningful in-order-to make a dollar and buy new products. The approach used was of entering a family's home and showing respect for what they already possess. Being an artist myself, I can truly appreciate your creative talents. My friends and family are truly impressed and envious. With great appreciation. Gina & Bob Lippman We never dreamed how spectacularly successful your work would be. For the first time, we are truly proud of our home. I think your name should be trumpeted from coast to coast. Patricia Connell, HOME Magazine As an avid art enthusiast, the best part of a museum visit was to come upon a "treasure room", find a bench, and sit in awe. We are far away from the "Met", but, thanks to you, I now have a home where I can sit on many chairs and couches and duplicate that feeling. You walked through my front door, did your magic in a few hours, and left me with a masterpiece. Rita Shore Your placement of our existing furniture has saved us thousands of dollars. Your ideas and talents have made us realize that we really do like our home again. It is like "brand new." Our new design reminds me of the Anne Murray ballad "Everything Old is New Again." Claire Ridge Since building our home we had spent considerable time and effort, both with and without professional help, to "zero-in" on the ambiance we wanted. Having been educated in design as an engineer, I feel I have a better than average understanding of mass, form, and flow; yet I must say that the dramatic improvement you achieved gives these words an entirely new and expanded meaning! Edward Monarchi You sat in my living room and assured me that without buying a thing you could make that room more beautiful, appear larger, and be far more interesting. And so you did! But now after living a week with the transformation I realize that I really got much more! Because along with "beautiful," "larger," and "more interesting," I got "joy," "satisfaction" and "pleasure." I wonder how many people have ever had the experience of just wanting to be in a room? Thank you for giving me that experience. Harriet Mishner |
